Why Do we Misunderstand Others & Understanding Quotes

Updated on April 9, 2013

“The noblest pleasure is the joy of understanding. “ ~ Leonardo da Vinci

“Life is the first gift, love is the second, and understanding the third” ~ Marge Piercy

Let us be frank, misunderstanding each other is causing many problems for us; many times, we blame ourselves for not giving chances for others to explain their ideas or their own viewpoints more clearly, before we give our judgement.

Some people miss their loves because of misunderstanding them.

Fortunately, understating others is a skill we can practice & do.

You maybe misunderstand me, that is related to many circumstances like:

- Being tired, being hungry, being angry, being in hurry or having stress.

- I am using a word that is not appropriate for you personally (maybe this word reminds you about a bad previous experience).

- Your emotional feeling towards me is not well.

“Folks never understand the folks they hate.” ~ James Russell Lowell

“A clear understanding of negative emotions dismisses them.” ~ Vernon Howard

- Your attitude about my own personality (maybe if you hear same words from someone else you will understand him better).

“Everyone hears only what he understands.” ~ Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

- If you believe someone, who has backbitten me, so you listen from your mind & heart not from your ears, etc.

Robert McCloskey said, “I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.”

Anyway, everything can be better if you keep in your mind that I worth to be understood, otherwise no benefit if you have decided already how you would understand me.
